With you every step of the way
Planning law categorises uses for land and buildings by an alphanumeric system, known as ‘Use Classes’, that range from A1-D2 depending on their use.
Restaurants fall within Use Class A3, for the sale of food and drink for consumption on the premises.
How do you want the restaurant to operate?
Before we start the process we look at what you want to achieve in terms of numbers of covers, hours of opening and even what cuisine you are intending to serve. All these factors will help us to advise to what is the best strategy towards achieving this goal.
Location
Most local authorities accept that restaurants provide for a valuable part of a shopping experience. However, there may be restrictions on the saturation of numbers or even other competitors planning to open in the same area. We can work with clients to give an opinion on the chances of success in any given area to save wasted time and money.

Other planning requirements and licences
Alongside the planning Use Class of the premises there may be additional requirements that need consideration before you open. Amongst these could be the need for an extraction system for if you are serving food, a new shop front or advertising, or if you intend to serve alcohol then a liquor licence will be needed.
We can provide the complete service to ensure that all your requirements are dealt with, pulling together a team of specialists for each aspect of the project.
Planning Applications and Appeals
Good preparation means a higher chance of gaining planning consent. With our experience we not only know what the council want to see to justify an application but can also agree conditions with them so your business function is not compromised.
If you have applied for consent yourself and received a refusal then we can consider the reasons for that decision and advise whether an appeal is the best action or with our experience and input the application can be found acceptable.
